Hi!If you are Joan, I got your letter a few days ago.I know a little about Thomas, but did not know he landed in New York.I'm trying to find ship's manifests with no luck.I do have a copy of his naturalization papers which I obtained in the late 70's.It would take me a while to find it but I'll start looking and will be happy to share with you.
Thomas was married twice:
Charlotte Lynch and Marie Louise Rueg, who was my gggrandmother.
He was one of the founders of Mansfield, and history says he suggested the name "Mansfield" after Lord Mansfield, an Englishman who was a strong supporter of the Irish.
His grave, along with other ancestral graves, is in a family plot located about 2 miles west of Grand Cane on La. Hwy. 3015.The 1/4 acre plot is in the middle of private property but can be found with proper directions.
Thomas was my gggrandfather, his son, John Bryan Abington was my ggrandfather; his son, John Beauregard Abington was my grandfather (yes, he was really named after Pierre G.T. Beauregard!); his son, William Henry Abington was my father.
I am from Keatchie, La. and have lived in San Antonio since 1994.Feel free to call me anytime 201-691-1375.
