This is what I have been able to document concerning the brothers or Joseph Ables:
The brothers of Joseph Abel/Ables were John, James, Moses (Mose) and Thomas.They were born in Abbeville County, SC around 1800.Joseph and his brothers moved to East Tennessee before 1818.John married Roxanna (Rhoda) Johnson in Knox County, TN 1 Sept 1818.Mose Abel married Elizabeth (Betsy) McHenry in Knox Co. in 1823. James Abel married Jane Morrison before 1830 & appears in 1830 census for Monroe Co., TN.The other brothers also appear in 1830 East Tennessee counties' census reports.All of the brothers moved to Alabama prior to 1840 - James, John and Thomas to Randolph Co., and Mose to Benton (now Calhoun CO.).They appear in the census reports.
Thomas Abel served as a volunteer iin the Mexican War as a 1st Sergeant.No records have been found for any of the other brothers serving in that war.James moved to Cherokee County, Alabama prior to 1849, when he died, leaving a widow and 15 children.He had 8 sons who served in the Confederate Army & two were killed.Three went to Texas/Oklahoma and 3 remained in Etowah Co., AL
Mose Abel moved his family to Pinson, Alabama in Jefferson County.John Abel served in the Civil War in a Randolph Co. Company.He took the amnesty oath in Winston Co., AL in 1867 and died in Alabama prior to 1870.
