My records show that Frances Ables, born 1847, was 10th of 11 children of Joseph and Mary Ables. He was born 1806 in Abbeville Co., NC (1850 U.S. Census for Randolph Co., AL), one of five Abel brothers (John, James, Joseph, Moses & Thomas) who went to Tennessee 1808-1818.The 5 brothers move to Alabama in mid 1830's - four of them to Randolph Co. & Moses to Benton Co. (now Calhoun Co.).
I don't have anything regarding Joseph's marriage.Undoubtedly it would have occurred in Tennessee because Joseph's was in 1830 Tennessee census & 1840 Alabama census. His oldest son, JAmes was born 1830.
I have not seen Gertrude Haden's Family Journal. There is only one source that I am aware of that addresses the parents of the 5 Abel/Ables brothers.A book written by Capt. B.B. Paddock in 1906, " A biographical and Historical History of North and West Texas" states that the father of Joseph & his brothers was a Moses Abel who married a girl named Nancy in Ireland before coming to America.Several of us who are working the 5 Abel brothers genealogy have been attempting to verify this for some time but have as yet found no other evidence to support the statement.
