Hi Cathy, Thanks so much for the reply and the offer to help. I have researched the Ables and the Rays for over five years and have a lot of information I will be glad to share with you that you may not have but there are some questions I have that I have not been able to find the answers to that you might be able to help me with or might know of someone who might know. Thomas M Ables or Abel and Lucinda Ray were the parents of Mark Ables who was born in the 1880's in probably Winstoc co or Walker co Alabama. I found Thomas and Lucinda living in the Glen Allen Al area of Fayette co Al next to Winston co and Walker co Al in the 1900 Alabama census. Lucinda must have died shortly after that because Thomas is found in Choctaw co Oklahoma in the 1910 Choctaw co Ok census listed as a widower. I believe two or three of his sons were living there also in the 1910 census so all of the family must have gone to Choctaw co OK between 1900 and 1910. I do not know if Lucinda died in Alabama shortly after 1900 and then the family went to OK or if she went to OK and then she died there. Mark would not have been lod enough to have been listed in the 1910 Oklahoma census. I think they lived in the Hugo and Soper Ok area. I know Mark married Christine Beauchamp in Choctaw co OK. I have heard Mark was raised by his older brothers. Some of the questions I have are:
Would you know when Lucinda Ray Ables, wife of Thomas M Ables or Abel, died and where she is buried. NO one seems to know where Mark's mother died or when she died. I know Thomas died in I believe 1918 in Jasper Al in Walker co Al.
Sarah Elizabeth Ables who was Mark's sister was my ancestor. She married Lloyd Smith in 1892 in Monroe co Mississippi. Their son Eric Smith born in I believe 1898 in Mississippi and his brothers must have been close to the Ables because most of them went to Choctaw co Ok also and when Mark Ables died in the 1970's (I believe that is correct) he and one or two of his brothers went to Mark's funeral in Kansas. Would you know why they all went to Choctaw co OK?
I have heard many times that Sarah Elizabeth Ables who married Lloyd Smith in 1892 in Monroe co Ms and sister of Mark's was part native American. I was told it was not talked about much back then but it was common knowledge that she was which would of course mean that Mark was also. Have you heard this and if so would you know know what kind of native American and which of Mark's parents was the native American or possibly both of them. I am thinking it was probably Lucinda Ray but I am not sure.
I am really glad you contacted my. I have researched the Ables and the Rays back to the 1700's and will be glad to share with you the information I have found. If you could help me with these questions I would really appreciate it because they are questions I have not been able to find the answers to. Also, would you know if any of Mark's other children are still living? They might be able to share some information.
