I am a Ablett directly descended from Alfred, the VC recipient.
From reading the postings, there appears to be an East Anglian branch of the Ablett family (Suffolk and Cambridgeshire). Are these directly related, and do they descend from Lancashire or Yorkshire Abletts?
I also know from the book about Alfred that he died in Poplar, East London in 1897, which may account for the Stratford posting from Edward. My father was from Walthamstow, East London, and is Alfred's g grandson.
I attended a service of commemoration to Alfred in Weybread, Suffolk in 1997 (where there is now an 'Ablett Close') and I met a whole load of 'Abletts'.I have some pictures and a copy of the book about Alfred which mentions some of the family history.
Would be great if we could trace the Suffolk line back to Lancs or Yorks and then find the original Ablett that settled here (from France?).Has the research moved on at all outside the forum?
