Henry Abney's daughter Mary Jane was married to my great, great grandfather James Rice.While seaching county records I came across this item. I thought it might be of interest to some of you.

Your orators, Mary J. Abney, William Abney, John W. Abney, James Rice and Mary J. Rice his wife, formerly Abney, all of Saline County...shows that Henry Abney, departed this life on the 14th day of May 1856, being seized at the time of his death in fee simple of the following real estate, to wit: the W1/2 SW1/4 NE1/4, NE1/4 NW1/4, S1/2 NW1/4, N1/2 SW1/4 of Section #35 T8S R5E containing 200 acres more or less, situated in Saline County, Illinois....that said Henry Abney left as his only legal heirs Mary J. Abney, his widow, and the following named children: William Abney, John W. Abney, James W. Abney, Francis M. Abney, James Rice and Mary J. Rice his wife, formerly Abney, McDowel Abney, Martha E. Abney and Elvina Abney...further shows that McDowell, Martha E. and Elvina Abney are minor heirs, and that Willis A. Stricklin was appointed guardian...said Mary J. Abney asks for her right and dower of said real estate.
