According to "Our Saluda County Ancestors, Vo. 2" put out by the Saluda County Historical Society (2000), the Nathaniel Abney Cemetery is at approx. N34 degrees, 10.41' W81 degrees 44.30".What that means is that as you cross over the Saluda River on Hwy 121 from Newberry Co. into Saluda co. the cemetery is down the first dirt path to the right from the bridge. The cemetery, which is without tombstones, is back about 1/2 mile from the road on the left "in a small grove of trees on a slight knoll".The land now belongs to the Southern Brick Company. It used to belong to Nathaniel. He and Francis Higgins, who lived on the other side of the river, ran Higgins Ferry which was located at about the spot where the bridge is today. The story I heard in Saluda County when I was there about two years ago is that someone took the headstone and has it in his fireplace in Saluda.
