MRS. MARGARET FULLERTON ABNEY was born near Pickensville, Ala., on Oct. 18, 1829. Her father was JAMES FULLERTON, born in Belfast, Ireland in 1799. He came to America at age 17, chose the South as the land of his adoption and later bringing his mother, one brother and 3 sisters to him. Shortly afterwards he married ADALINE HEFLIN, a daughter of Alabama. Sons and daughters were born to them, of whom the last survivor is the Margaret of this sketch.At the age of 17 Margaret Fullerton became the bride of PAUL COLLINS ABNEY, a youngster of the same age. The young couple at once steered a bold course westward and first settled in La., where thei eldest son was born; 2 years later found them established in their life home, a delightful seat a mile west of the present town of Lufkin, Angelina Co., Texas. There they reared a family of nine sons and 3 daughters, not to mention a sister's 3 orphaned children- all heirs of God's...
at the outbreak of the War Between the States.. JAMES ABNEY, eldest son, was sworn into Capt. Lane's Co. E, Anderson's Regiment in March, 1864 and performed efficiently all the duties of a soldier until discharged in June, 1865. MRS. ABNEY has 39 grandchildren, 43 gt. and one gt. gt. grandaughter. So here you see her sitting at ease in the home of her veteran son at Brownwood, Tex. , happy in the company of little MISS HELEN ELIZABETH ABNEY, a gt. grandaughter...
