The Harrison County, Texas Abneys have our Samuel Abney, Sr. (married Martha Harriett Hamilton) ancestry correct, except that I think that George Abney was the son of Dannett Abney (Paul's brother) and Mary (who may have been Mary Lee, his step-sister).
In the 1920s some knowledgeable people were confused by the two Revolutionary South Carolina Samuel Abney patriots. On their SC Indents for Pay one was called "Sr." and the the other "Jr."One was older (and deceased), the other was younger (and alive). The older one was the uncle of the younger one, not his father. The older one did have a son Samuel but he was born about 1770/1776 and also a son Zachariah (the ancestor of the Harrison Co., Texas Abneys), born 10 Feb 1782.
An extra generation really messed up the Samuel Abney, Sr.'s line especially for those of us descended from the older son as I am. The Samuel Abney, Sr. line taking/being given "ownership" of both patriots meant that the real Samuel Abney, the younger, was not recognized as patriot.
The untangling of the Samuel Abneys and the correct line of Samuel Abney, Sr. is being published this winter. It contains all the proofs for each patriot and traces the line of Samuel Abney, Sr. It discusses errors in publications and work done in correcting the line with the DAR and current status.
