Elizabeth Spragins, Wm. Grffin and Henry Pursewells(?) witnessed a deed dated 28 July 1801 at the Abbeville Courthouse for land sold on 96 Creek in Edgefield County by Edmond Lankford to William Burton.
96 Creek runs into the Saluda River where these families settled.
The record is found in Edgefield County Deed records No. 21.
One Nathaniel Abney whose records are lost also had land on 96 Creek. The purchase of this land by the Lankford family is also among the lost records of South Carolina.
The Abney and Spragins families are found in Pittsylvania Co. Virginia on records with Benjamin Lankford who was a member of the Burgess. One of Benjamin's daughters married a Madison and another a Hamilton.
I am wondering if there is a familial relationship between these families back in Virginia?
Anyhow, I hope this helps document Elizabeth Spragins, William Griffin and Henry Pursewell(?). Poldi
