Perhaps Old Simon was correct in his statement that his mother's father was a British Surgeon. We have all been looking for an American father.Perhaps Charity was born in England and not the states or came here as a small child, do we have any definite proof that she was born here. She was born after the Rev. war.Maybe her father came back to the states after the war as so many did. They fell in love with this country also.Perhaps her father was a distant or even close cousin to the Abneys in Edgefield and that is how he ended up there.Do we have any Abney researchers in Great Britain, that will check records there for Elizabeth Molonia "Charity" Abney.Perhaps there are church records for her.
Yes, Robert, I know that I'm clutching at straws, but..... after all these years, we've never gotten any definite proof of Charity's parentage.
We don't know when Charity's parents passed away so it's a good possibility that Simeon knew his grandparents and knew that his grandfather was a doctor. Most of us knew our grandparents if they were alive and we know what they did for a living.
I wouldn't consider Abraham and Nathaniel as British Doctors, but as "Colony or American doctors. I know that they might have gotten their training if any in Britain but still they were practicing here in the colonies, and it seems as if they were good "Americans to be".
