I have a good deal of research on the family but I have been at a loss when it comes to pre-American records. What I know is that the family is from a "Frankgonia, Germany."This is probably today's Franconia and Franconia Forrest, known to the Germans as a region of Bavaria called Franken.
It is my *guess* that the family left because of the Napoleonic invasion of 1806 that brought an end to the Holy Roman Empire.Civil war seemed looming and the family was Protestent but living at the edges of devoutly Catholic Bavaria. With Franconia being near the borders of several German states, it would have been in chaos and fought over by several armies. This culmination of events would certainly make emigration tempting.
However, there is no evidence to back up my hypothesis. Therefore, I am asking that anyone knows of the German family history of the Abolts please fill me in.
If there is anyone who would like help with information on the family after the 1806/1807 immigration, I'll be glad to help them.
