I am looking for information on an Abraham or Abrams family that came to the states during the federal period of Jewish migration from 1654 to 1838. I have new information that my 3rd great-grandfather was a Jew who was disowned by his family for marrying out of the faith in 1848. His name was Elisha Abrams, born 1823, died 1885. He was living in NC in 1850 and his place of birth is listed as NC on the census for that year. It's possible that the census info was incorrect and he was not born in NC but came to the states as a child during the large migration of German Jews that began in 1838 since he gave his 3rd son the German name of Elisha Paten Katen and he spelled his name Abrams. His family may have originally settled in VA.
