Mr. Abrams - I am working with Dan Utley on a research project that involves Mr. Joseph R. Abrams of Greenville, Ala who patented several inventions, including metal grave covers, in the 1870s.His obituary states he was an insurance agent - the census has another member of his household - Richard Porter - as an insurance agent as well.Mr. Abrams was born in S.C. about 1835. We thought perhaps his insurance line was burial insurance since he also seems to have designed grave covers.I had assumed that he manufactured these covers but it may be that he was the engineer and some other company actually produced them.We are trying to find a link between Mr. Abrams and a family in East Texas - father Joshua T. Hopper- because the grave markers are not common here and we are curious as to how they came to be in an obscure cemetery in Texas. So if you would be willing to share what information the Abrams book has on Joseph R. Abrams we may be able to make that link.(I have checked all of our local libraries but could not locate a copy of that particular geneaology.)Thank you.
