Philip Abraham b. abt. 1822 Prussia immigrated to NY from Bremen in 1845 on Oceanus. He changed his name to Abrams and was a shoemaker in Manhattan where he is in every census 1850-1900.
A wife Paulena b. abt. 1823 Prussia and children: Hannah 1850, Aaron 1855, Sarah 1858, Max 1860, Jennie 1866 are listed. Jennie married Louis Block and they were still in NY in 1930.
Then Philip has a second wife Ragna/Rachel b. abt. 1844 Baden, Germany and they are listed with children: Hattie 1873, Rose 1876, Benjamin 1878, and Florence 1880.
Hattie married Joshua Toledano and moved west. Benjamin lived with his brother Max in KC in 1900 but prob. moved back to NY. Florence married Albert Bauman and they were still in NY in 1930.
Max left NY after 1880 and married Lillie Richardson in Kansas City, MO, where they were in the 1900 census. Max was a liquor distributor in KC and his undertaker in 1902 was Jewish. Their only child was my grandfather Edward Abrams (1893-1970)who never told us his family origins were Jewish. In his obit, Washington Post, he has a sister Jennie Heepke listed; however, she must be a cousin??
I am interested in finding any relatives or anyone doing research on this family.
