From Ancestry.com I ran a pedigree on my ggg-grandmother, Hannah Abrams Purvis, and learned she had a brother, Friend Abrams.Their parents were Henry Abraham and Rachel Turpin. Other grandparents and great-grandparents were Thomas Abraham and Jemmiah Jerriah Friend; Henry Abraham and Rhoda Spencer; Andrew Friend and Mary Lewis; Johannes Friend and Anna Coleman; Nicholas L. Friend and Anna Andersdotter; Hendrick Coleman and Princess Bright Lightning (daughter of Chief Big Thunder); Nicholas Frande and Anne Friende.
Today I visited the graves of Hannah and Alfred Purvis and Rachel and Henry Abraham in Clover Bottom, Jackson County, Kentucky. This is on Hwy 421 near Morrill, KY.China Abrams Kates and another Mr. Abrams said Henry came from PA and had a land grant which gave him hundreds of acres of land in the area.In England the Abrahams made and cared for the carriages for the King, so I am told.
Do you have any idea why the name was shortened to Abrams?Or, have additional information on the Abrams family?
My family goes from James and Rhoda Roberts Purvis to Alfred and Hannah Abrams Purvis to Zacheriah Taylor and Frances Jane Phillips Purvis to Dave and Dovie Frances Purvis Payton (Henry County, KY) to Ralph and Edith Payton Fitzgerald (Shelby County, KY) to Thomas and Joan Fitzgerald Henderson (presently Estill County, KY).
I don't remember seeing a Sarah B. Gordon listed.Hannah was from June 8, 1815 and died 1895.I don't know about Friend.
Would love to hear from you. Please post to the forum. My e-mail is ill with a virus at the moment.
