I asked genealogy.com for this forum so that all the Acebos and related families can get together to talk about Acebo history. I am a descendent of Jose Acebo b.1854 in Santander, Spain d.1899 in Corpus Christi, Texas, USA. There are few sources that indicate Jose's parents. One names them as Jose Antonio Acebo and Thomasa, both of Santander, Spain. However this has not been verified. Jose married Annie Kelly, an Irish woman, in Corpus. They had ten children, one of whom was Alfonso Leo Acebo. Alfonso married Mary Catherine Linney. Their daughter Isabel Rose Acebo was my great grandmother. From what I understand Jose came to America abt 1869. He landed in New Orleans. There is one Joaquin Acebo listed in the Louisiana Confederate Army. I have not been able to establish what, if any, realtion he might have been to Jose. About a year later Jose moved to Brownsville, Tx and worked as a clerk. From there he moved to Corpus Christi and started his own grocery and dry goods store located on the bluffs. He also owned land and cattle. Jose was involved in politics and served as an Alderman. His wife, Annie, was the daughter of a prominent ranch owner. They played important roles in the establishment of Corpus Christi and its government. I would love to hear from other Acebos. Even today Acebo is not that common of a name in the US. I would like to learn more about the family in Spain and about other family branches here in the US.
