Dear Julie, Thankyou for your message of aug. 1/02.
We may have a connection here:
Lets start with your JAMES AND ISABELLA (Gilmour) ACHESON. I have a CLARA ACHESON MARRIED TO ROSS GILMOUR
Could CLARA be the sister of your JAMES?
Woops! My JAMES AND CLARA are the children of William Acheson and Mary (Hunter) Acheson.(1771) They also had JOHN, WILLIAM, MATTHEW HENRY & SAMUEL who married ISABELLA DAVIS IN 1810
SAMUEL AND ISABELLA HAD THE FOLLOWING CHILDREN: WILLIAM, JOHN, SAMUEL, JOSEPH-M-(ELIZA JANE PATTERSON), THOMAS -M-(MARY MASON IN CANADA IN 1844 & IS MY G.G. GRANDFATHER),JAMES, ROBERT, MARY & SARAH (TWINS)Mary married John Patterson and Sarah married Robert Flynn.
I visited Co Down and Co Armagh last spring and just barely got started on the Irish background. From what I can get so far, We are definitely situated in the Townland of Mullabrack which straddles Armagh and Down. We are connected to the family of the Earls of Gosford there but so far not absolutely confirmed.
HISTORICALLY: William and John Acheson came from Scotland in 1688.They fought at the Seige of Derry and the Battle of the Boyne. JOHN is my ancestor.
I hope you can find something in here which looks familiar! Best Regards, Carol Rothwell
