Dear Judy,Thank you very much for your message which I was most interested to receive. Your great grandfather, Alexander, was born on 2nd May,1866,at 32 Soldiers' Cottages, Charlton, which is adjacent to Woolwich where his father Alexander was stationed.Alexander, who died in 1903, was my great-great grandfather. My great grandmother, Mary Sarah, was your grandfather's eldest sister, who was born in Ireland in 1854.She married George Thomas Blackburn and emigrated to South Africa in 1880.I have a copy of your grandfather Alexander's birth certificate.I have written a history of the Acheson family in manuscript form with many pictures, including the graves of Alexander senior and that of his wife Mary Campion. In due course I could let you have a copy of this, but first would like to update it in the light of the information you have sent me as well as information I have received from Dean Acheson's son about Alexander and Edward's brother Arthur, whom I had known little about. Could you possibly send me more details about your grandfather Alexander, his exact date of death, his wife's birth and death dates and as much as you can tell me about his life. Its most exciting to find these living distant relatives! If you have a family tree it would be most helpful to have that too.I don't even know where you are writing from. I live in Edinburgh, Scotland, having been born in South Africa.Should you prefer to send me further information by post, my address is: Neville Long, 16/7 Wardie Dell, Edinburgh, EH5 1AE, Scotland, UK I have just returned from South Africa, where I delivered my history to the family and already it is out of date! Best wishes, Yours sincerely, Neville Long.
