Hi Bill,
There is so much in the Aker files, let me just tell you about Ecker Hollow first.
Yes, I was surprised also that it was not found in French's Gazetter.Maybe because Schoharie County was
formed so late???!I did find it though in: (1.)New Topographical Atlas of Schoharie County, NY, 1866
(2) De Lorme Atlas, New York, page 65 C5(3) genealogylibrary.comthen query GNIS.This says:
Name: Ecker HollowType: ValleyState/County Code: 36095
State: New YorkCounty: Schoharie
Geo. Coordinates:423859N0742417WSource Coordidnates: 423909N074358W
Ecker Hollow is surrounded by Highways 41 and 145.New York state campground #2645 is within it and is
called Twin Oaks campground.A small portion is in Cobleskil and larger portion in Middleburgh. As I understand
it, originally it was the T. Eckerson patent (Teunis or Thomas).I have yet to find the patent. It was abbreviated
to Ecker or Acer Hollow by the local people, who now know it as Ecker Hollow. Our ancestors lived in that area
for several generations. Nelson Aker wrote about the family there, I'll have to look up which newspaper ir was in.
I don't have a copy.
More later.
