I am searching for an Adolf/Alof Ackerson, born about 1860 in Sweden. He first settled in the Lackawanna area of Pennsylvania and had at least two sons with his first wife:William (born 1887), and Ralph (born Sep. 1889).He remarried to a Pennsylvania-born Irish woman named Winifred "Winnie" O'Malley, who was also married before to a man named Kline. She already had four children when they married in 1895:Harriet (b. 1888), Mildred (b. 1889), Rene (b. 1890), and Joseph (b. 1894).Together, Adolf and Winnie had at least one son, Gerald (born 1897).
The line I am researching comes through Adolf's son, Ralph Ackerson.I am trying to find information on Adolf (or possibly Olaf) (where he was born in Sweden, names of his parents/siblings) and mother (currently unknown, although she is listed as born in Sweden). The only records I have found so far of Adolf are the 1900 Scranton, Lackawanna, PA Census and the 1920 Manhattan, New York City census, where Adolf is listed as a widower living with his son, Ralph. Names that recur in this family are Ralph, Gerald, and Karl.
William married first Emma Phillips and had two children: Francis (born 1911) and George (born 1912).Emma passed away shortly after George was born.William remarried to a Julie P. (?) born 1890, PA.They are listed on the 1920 and 1930 Northumberland, PA censuses.
Ralph married Matilda Mellert and had three sons: Robert (born 1913), Ralph Jr. (born 1916), and Gerald Karl (born 1918).They are listed on the 1920 and 1930 Manhattan, NYC censuses.
I am also trying to connect with Beverly Curry and Betty Smailes, two individuals that have posted queries online regarding this family.According to Ms. Smailes, Adolph had nine children with his first wife and worked as a coal miner. His wife was born in Sweden, and probably died between 1889 and 1895 near Scranton, PA.
I was able to find a reference to a Carl Adolf Åkesson, born Nov. 17, 1863 in Damhuset, Sweden while searching the online Swedish archives, but I have no idea if this could be the same person or not.
If you can provide any information on this family, I would love to hear from you! Thanks for your time.
