I can only offer up a bit more confusion...About the given name Aquilla...Actually I have seen this name in about 20 different families in VA, NC and KY before 1800.AND each and every time I see this AQUILLA name I can place it directly or indirectly to the Welbornfamily who lived in Baltimore Co MD c 1730.
Aquilla Welborn Aquilla Teague Aquilla Duty Aquilla Harding Aquilla Scott
These are just a few names that come to mind...but there are many others with the given name Aquilla..
I suspect that it started with Aquilla Scott of Baltimore Co MD...Just a hunch...and from what was told to me, there was an Aquilla Landing in Baltimore co MD...One person thinks that the given name Aquilla started from this landing site.I have no idea if this is the case.
At any event, it appears that Wilburns were allied with Actons and Smallwoods...Hence Wilburn Acton and I forget the Smallwood connection, but I do have Smallwoods as part of a Wilburn cluster family...
My hunch is that this has to do with the given Aquilla in your family tree. Directly or perhaps very indirectly.. Dunno?
