WILLIAM ACTON, b. 1792 to James & Elizabeth (McCraft) Acton, m. Charity Grindstaff 26 Dec 1811 in Garrard, KY.He died in Boone Co., MO 21 Jan 1871
Two of William & Charity's sons that settled in Decatur Co., IA were **WILLIAM, (m. Josephine Newell), and **GEORGE, (m. 1. Elizabeth Rucker, 2. Sarah Hamilton).William & Charity had a total of 7 sons. The other 5 were CAIN, JAMES, SAMUEL, HARRISON & GREENBERRY.After Charity died William married Katherine Perkins and had 3 more sons, SIDNEY, ROBERT & RILEY.(All of Williams sons were born between 1812-1848, in either KY or MO.)
**I only recently proved that these two Iowa settlers, GEORGE & WILLIAM, were brothers. There was much confusion over another GEORGE ACTON in Iowa at the time. This other GEORGE ACTON came to Iowa around the same time and settled in Richland. This other George was also married to a Sarah, whose last name was McQuerry.Adding to the confusion, all of these Acton's were previously from Kentucky -- "Rock Castle", "Garrard", "Pulaski", etc.
It is quite possible that ALL OF THESE ACTONS are somehow related, and may all be descendants of James & Elizabeth (McCraft) Acton -- TN.
I believe I have all of the children from William and George identified.I believe I have all of the other George's children identified as well.If you're researching these Iowa Actons, are confused about who is who, perhaps I can help.
