WHEN I STARTED MY SEARCH OF MY FAMILY I KNEW VERY LITTLE. RELYING ON FAMILY TALES HAS BEEN QUITE REWARDING, IN THAT I NOW KNOW OF ALL MY FAMILY ON MY FATHERS SIDE. AND WHAT SURPRISES!
THE THING IS, EVERY FAMILY TALE I WAS TOLD, AND THERE AIN'T MANY, I FOUND TO ALL BE TRUE, SO FAR :)
NOW, WHEN I WAS YOUNG, AND ROY ACUFF CAME ON T.V., WHICH WE FINALLY GOT, NONE TOO SOON, MY FATHER WOULD MAKE THE COMMENT THAT WE WERE DISTANT KIN. ONCE HE TOLD ME THAT ROY AND "THE FELLERS" WOULD COME THROUGH TEXAS ONCE IN A WHILE AND STOP AT OUR KINS HOME. EVERYONE WAS TOLD, AND EVERYONE SHOWED UP FOR EATIN', TALKIN', AND PLAYIN' MUSIC.
NOW, I TOOK THAT WITH A GRAIN OF SALT BACK THEN, BUT NOW, WITH THE ADVENT OF THIS NEW DOOHICKY, THE INTERNET, I HAVE FOUND THAT ALL THEM OTHER STORIES WAS TRUE. SO I HAVE STARTED LOOKIN' INTO THIS ACUFF KIN STUFF.
THE FAMILY NAMES THAT COULD BE INTERMARRIED WITH ACUFF ARE; BUNCH;ARMSTRONG;SNEED,MCNABB.
WE COME FROM MEIGS CO. TN. THERE WAS KIN IN POOR VALLEY ON THE SIDE OF CLINCH MOUNTAINS. SO HERE IS WHAT I HAVE FOUND SO FAR.
