Phyllis: Some think that the Cain who came to Puncheon Camp in Grainger Co was married 1st to Francis CARTER in Spottsavania Co VA and that he m. 2nd Ester KENNEDY. Some people beleive that his children were the ones attributed to John ACUFF SR, and that the John ACUFF Sr of Grainger Co was the son of Cain as well as Sarah, Richard, Thomas, James,Henry, Spencer, Cain and Carter, trying to do this from memory and can't find them all right now. We are really not sure where the John ACUFF b. 1742 went to from Henry County or where he died. For a long time he was thought to be the father of the Grainger County bunch but then we have two opinions on the issue and are hard pressed for any documentation to prove the matter. On the 1810 Census of Grainger Co there was a Cain ACUFF with wife over 45 yrs, next door was Richard, Joseph HENDERSON, then William ACUFF, then 6 houses down John ACUFF, James ACUFF, Clabiourn BURNETT,3 houses down Henry ACUFF, David BUNCH, then Joseph BURNETT. The other men listed here are 26-45. Many houses away is a Christopher ACUFF also 26-45 and a distance from him is a John ACUFF ov 45 living by the KITCHENS. So it may be that old John died in Grainger but he was not living near the rest, like old Cain was. Younger Cains have been found in other TN counties, we think old John had a son Cain and old Cain had a son Cain.
