Hi Billy, I tried to e-mail you, but your address didn't work.I am also a great great grandchild of Bob and Bettie Acuff.I have found census info on them and Bettie does not identify herself as Cherokee, even though we've always been told that she was. (And a picture that my mother has of Bettie definitely does not appear that she was white) All the census records I can find identify her as white.I realize that at the time if you could "pass" then you did.In 1870 she and Bob had been married for 4 years and lived right next door to the people I believe to be her parents.I'm still trying to find verification, but based on all the clues I had to go on, I've come to believe that Bettie's parents were Rueben and Sarah Rucker Dalton.Sarah Rucker's mother was a Dodson or Dotson, and I'm told that that is a North Carolina "indian" name, but I've not found anything to support that as of yet.Keep looking.One of us is bound to find something conclusive!
