Here's what I have on Betty Dalton so far: Reuben Anderson Dalton m. Sarah Rucker (daughter of William Rucker and Ruth(a)Dodson Rucker)Betty is rumored in family history to have been native american, but so far the only definitive ties I can make are melungeon through the Dodson's and Ruckers, which means the family could have been mediteranean or native american or a mixture of both. Rueben and Sarah were also first cousins, which could explain why so many of their children were deaf.
Reuben and Sarah had 11 children: William b 1841 Delphia Deaf/mute b. 1843 Rutha b. 1844 m. William Maples 1870 Elizabeth Deaf/Mute b. 1844-1845(4 years old in October 1850 census, 25 in Sept 1870, and 36 in June 1880 although in 1900 age is 46 and birtdate is placed in April 1850, so possibly birthdate April 1846 and 55 at the time of the 1900 census) m. Robert Acuff 1866 (also deaf and had at least three deaf siblings; John, Jane, and Frances "Frankie" according to 1880 and 1870 cencus info.) Samuel deaf/mute b. 1847 John b. 1849 Colby deaf/mute b.1856 Joel Deaf/Mute b. 1859 Leander deaf/mute b. 1861 Abner b. 1864 Thomas W. b. 1867
Robert was born sometime around 1830, probably 1829 judging from census info and he died as the result of being hit by a train in 1885. Elizabeth Dalton and Robert had the following children: Benjamin R. or Reuben B. b. Dec 1866 according to 1900 census, but more likely 1867 as the 1870 census has him as 2 years of age. (Dec bdate would mean he was about 2 1/2 at the time of the census in June) Sarah "Sallie" M. or E. b. March 1870 (6 months old in Sept 1870 Census) Delphy b.1877 Henderson Atha b. 1883 and my Great Grandfather Abner b. April 1885.
I have most of the line coming to me from Abner, however, I am interested in his oldest brother Benjamin R. right now. In the 1900 census Ben is living with his wife Mary A., his mother Elizabeth and his brother Abner still in Thorn Hill TN.They also have a child, 6 years old, named Delia Wolfinbarger/Wolfenbarger listed as a lodger.Does anyone know who Mary A. could be and who the 6 year old Delia was?
