Believe he may have descended from John Adair (Scotland) whose son Rev. Patrick Adair married Jean (his cousin). Jean was 2nd dau. of Sir Robert Adair of Ballymena, co. Antrim and his wife Jane Edmondstone.Jane Edmondstone was dau. of Archibald Edmonstone of Duntreath, co. Stirling.

He m. 2ndly a widow, Elizabeth Anderson (nee Martin).He left 4 sons, Rev. William Adair ordained at Ballyeaston 1681,removed to Antrim 1690 d.1698; Archibald, Alexander & Rev. Patrick Adair, Minister at Carrickfergus who d. June 1717 and a dau. Helen.
