According to work begun by my mother-in-law, JOHN ADAIR who married Ann TEETZEL (on September 25, 1816) was the son of JOHN ADAIR (born April 14, 1759 in New Jersey and died December 18, 1812 in Clinton Township, ON) and Phoebe Mills (born 1765- year of death unknown). According to her notes, John (the father) served with New Jersey Volunteers in the war between the U.S.A. and British and was a prisoner of war for several years. He came to Canada in 1795 and settled on Lot 21, Concession V, Township of Clinton.He served as Clerk of Clinton Township between 1806 and 1812. He served with the 4th. Lincoln Regiment and was a casualty of war. His tombstone is the oldest in Merlott Konkle Cemetery. Phoebe Mills, John's wife, married a second time on October 19, 1817 to Harland Freeland. John's parents were DAVID ADAIR (1734-1811) and ABIGAIL (1736-1821). David came to Canada from New Jersey in 1788 with his wife and 3 of his 5 children. He settled on Lots 19 and 20, Concession IV, Clinton Township in 1835. He was the first clerk of Clinton Township. Both David and Abigail are buried in Baptist Cemetery, Beamsville, ON.
