Hi David, I found your posting in the Adair genforum site.I was searching for ADAIR because in the book, "The Scotch -Irish Who Came to America" by Bill and Mary Durning, copyright 1997 they list only a few settlers for Laurens County, SC.They are: Adair/SC 1772/Laurens/Duncans Creek Beasley/SC 1772/Laurens/Duncans Creek Copeland/SC 1772/Laurens/Duncans Creek Craig/SC 1772/Laurens/Duncans Creek McLenan/SC 1772/Laurens/Rayburn Creek McLintock/SC 1773/Laurens/Rayburn Creek I am researching McLenan, that turned into McClanahan later, and was wondering if you had any way of knowing of what churches there might be in the area that I could contact to see if they have any McLenan, McClenahan or McClanahan records for Christening, marriage or burial. The above John McLenan (or McClanahan) married Mary Reid.Their son, John McClanahan, married Jennet McClurkin, whose father James was on one of Rev. Martin's five ships, the Lord Dunluce that left Larne Ireland and arrived in Charleston, SC in 1772. We have not been able to find out where the McLenan (McClanahan) family came from before they arrived in Laurens, SC and have pretty much come to a dead end. If you have any ideas on where in the Laurens County area we could search, I would be very grateful.
