This is a reach!! My g grandfather was Colonel John Adair, his name ,not a title, so the family says.Ok, here is what I know,my grandmother named my father Isaac Newton Story. He was her third child of 12, and the first to have a double name. I am getting ahead of myself. Matilda Dollarhide of Sevier Co. AR, married a Colonel John Adair, probably in 1875.No record found in any AR record I have searched. On the 1880 census for Sevier Co AR, Matilda is listed as a widow, head of household, with a daughter, Mary Ann Adair,4 years old.( Grandma was born in Oct) and a son,John Adair 3 years old. husband dc'd. Alright,I know women had children without a husband, but in that family? UhUh. I had a map showing a military road going across Sevier Co., heading SW-NE, I had always wondered if Matilda had met someone from out of state and eloped and then returned after he died. Okay thats my Story and it makes wild reading, but do you have any input? Joyjlpowell35@hotmail.comIncidently,only a few of Marys' children had a double name.
