re: Dr. George Ross, Laurens Co. SC, (emigrated from Belfast (or near), Ireland ?), b-i-law of James Adair. Also, Dr. George Ross performed patriot service, was mentioned in Lt.Allaires Dairy and at the Musgrove Mill battle, and named in the Draper Collection.
S.C. Archives, letter, 1786/07/01 (4 pages) Report to the General Assembly John Hunter letter to John F. Grimke, Speaker of the House, asking that George Ross be appointed to fill a vacancy among the commissioners of elections of Little River District. Names Indexed: James Montgomery, George Ross, James Caldwell, John Hunter, John F. Grimke.
Would this appear then, that the George Ross of the citizenship application to State of S.C., may have been applying for some Government position, perhaps surgeon to S.C. Militia ?
Do you have any info, perhaps family oral history, (no matter if little or doubtfull) about his originating from Belfast, or his parents ?It may help to tie the Ross / Dunlap / Montgomery family in with Adairs in Ayr and Belfast. Thankyou.
