Soldiers of the 12th Regiment who were stationed at Ballarat, Victoria, Australia during the Eureka Rebellion :
Samuel Adair, Private 3329 Enlisted 19.12.1853 (Ireland or England ?) Arrived in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on the transport ship Empress Eugenie. Wounded at Eureka, Victoria, Australia. He was one of only sixteen Ballarat veterans to serve in both the 2nd and 3rd Maori Wars in New Zealand. Discharged on 10 June 1866 ( New Zealand PRO 3730 )
Adair was promoted through the ranks to Colour Sergeant on the 1st November 1863 and deposed of Colours (demoted to Sergeant) on the 14th July 1864. He was promoted back to Colors in October 1864. (NZ PRO 3727).
He was one of only two soldiers at Ballarat to be promoted three ranks.
