Was Thomas Napier Adare relative of Sir William Francis Patrick Napier, General, K.C.B., b. 17 Dec 1785 at Celbridge, near Dublin, Ireland, (3rd son ofHon. George Napier & Lady Sarah Lennox, dau of Duke of Richmond). He was 1st cousin of Charles James Fox (& Lord Edward FitzGerald who d. after 1798). After passing through some experiences of the Insurrection of 1798, on 14 June 1800 he entered the army as an ensign, on 18 April 1801 became lieutenant,and 2 June 1804 a captain. In 1808 he went with his regiment to Spain, and bore more than his share of the hardships of Sir John Moore's retreat. In 1809 Napier became Aide-de-camp to his uncle, the Duke of Richmond, Ld Lieut. of Ireland (relative of Lady Caroline Adair, wife of Robin Adair).
