I tie into the Bankston, Adaire/O'Dear, and Wakefield lines through Mary Hooper.
1. Mary Hooper 2. William Hooper & Jerousha Crocker 3. James Hooper & Jemina Bankson, Arthur Crocker & Elizabeth Wakefield 4. James Bankston and Judith Lee, Thomas Crocker & ?, Henry Wakefield and Elizabeth Alexander...
I would like to share notes to see if we can solve a mystery or two!
I know these families moved together from NC to IL. The next time I return to the Raleigh Archives I would like to search for Adaire/O'Dear information.
I have a pretty good idea why Ann O'Dear is listed as Irish and it isn't because she was "off the boat," rather after finding court records regarding the land sale of property owned by Laurence Bankston and his son Andrew Bankston, I am inclined to think they (Andrew and Ann Bankston) were Tories and in order to squash this info after the Revolutionary War, as to not loose their property, they changed history a bit. From what I have been told this was not an uncommon practice. Montgomery County, NC was a big Torie stronghold before the War and the courthouse kept conveniently burning after the War as to protect the families that stayed had once been loyal to the King.
If you have any suggestions as to where I should look please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
