Infeft John McDowell of GARTHLAND as son and heir to the deceased Uchtred McDowell of Garthland In (1) Mains of Garthland, Kerobruyne, Achincloy, Blair, Barneschalloch, ACHORK, Meikle Portispittel, Little Portispitale, all in the parish of Stanykirk / Stoneykirk ; with the patronage of the Kirk of Stanykirk and the teinds thereof; Over and Nether Culreochis (Culreoch ?), Dunbay, Midmyltoun alias Balmenochal with mill crofts etc., Lochanis, Culmuk, DUCHRA and Culgrange, united in the free barony of Garthland. ............................. Near Awhirk at Michle Pinmennech there was an Alexander Adair b.1727 mc.1752 Jean McDowell. Also near Awhirk at Ardneal there was a James Adair m. Rosina Corsbe who had a son, Thomas Adair chr. 1752 (town of Stephenkirk ? ) who may have had relatives who emigrated to America about 1850s.
