re: In "The Register of the Privy Council of Scotland" 2nd series, vol. VII, AD1638-1643, page 322: Court Case, Edinburgh, 22nd Sep. 1642 re a riot in the church of Stonykirk, to which the complainer had been appointed by the General Assembly in reversal of the judgement of the Presbytery of Stranraer. Evidently William and Thomas Adair were of the latter.
(William Adair, of Killaisser was step-bro of Sir Robert Adair, and later Minister in Ayr.) ...................... Scotland.Act of Indemnity. Charles II. 8 May 1662. Within the shire of Wigtown: George Campbell, captain lieutentant to Sir Robert Adair, £600. Gilbert Adair, Stranraer, £360. John Adair of Little Gennoch, £600.
Who were the parents of Gilbert Adair of Stranraer ?Thankyou
At one stage Sir Robert Adair had borrowed money from a Mr. Hamilton to bail out Mr. Edmonston / Edmonstone. Wonder if he borrowed it from his uncle who had married Helen Adair ?
