This was the first reconstruction of the castle and was probably carried out before 1659.
The Montgomery's sold the castle to George ROSS who lived at Kearney. (Carney / Carney Hill). George Ross never lived in the Castle and therefore it was allowed to become a nearly ruined structure.
George Ross held townlands under the HAMILTON's at Portavo near DONAGHADEE and also at Rostrevor / Rosstrevor. (Adairs may have leased properties from the Rostrevor estate ?). ................... Donaghadee Headstones - I am put here by Charlef Hamilton.
