I am not sure if they were both named for the trader Walter Scott, but Walter Scott "Red Watt" Adair was.Walter Scott was his maternal grandfather, the father of Elizabeth Scott Adair. Her mother was the daughter of a Cherokee woman and a trader by the name of Hicks. "Red Watt" was known to have been fair skinned and to have had red hair.His father was the trader Edward Adair.Walter "Black Watt" Adair was known to have been darker in complexion and to have black hair.He was a first cousin of "Red Watt", their fathers being brothers."Black Watt's" father was the trader John Adair.The Walters were both educated in South Carolina."Black Watt's" mother was Gahoga.
