I thank you for the information, and it's possible that she was the Margaret Adair. The information I posted was from an abstract. I'm going to have to get that deed because there are three things that confuse me: 1)As you well know, she had to be either single or a widow to sign that deed-I can't imagine that she was a married sole trader. 2)Why was George McCrary involved with her in the land sale? I know who he was, married to Frances Ferguson, although he had a brother, Thomas McCrary, Jr., who had married Cassy Adair, daughter of Joseph Adair.3) They were selling only 2/3 of a tract, which seems to suggest that each owned 1/3. Perhaps the deed may identify her further.
There was an Edward Adair with a sister Margaret Adair, both alive in 1815, noted in the 1815 will of their father, John Adair of Pendleton District (present Anderson County), S.C., but I have dismissed her as the correct Margaret Adair.
I'm trying to accurately identify all in that massive McCrary family in early Laurens County, S.C., a project I started three years ago, then stopped, and now I'm at it again, making more progress.
