In 1752 Dr. Pococke, on his Irish Tour, visited Ballycastle, co Antrim, N. Ireland, and made comments:- "When I came to Ballycastle Mr. Boyd soon found out I had compliments to him from the archbishop of Dublin, he obliged me to make his house my home: where I met my acquaintance his dau, Mrs. Macaulay, married to Dr. Macaulay, Vicar-General of the Diocese of Dublin."
Col. Hugh Boyd b. 1680, son of Rev. Wm Boyd, vicar of Ramoan, was Mayor of Coleraine in 1725, 1729, and 1734. In 1734 he was High Sheriff of co Antrim. In 1737 Hugh Boyd purchased Ballycastle estate from the Earl of Antrim.Buried 1765 in the vault under Ballycastle church. ...........................
