re: PRONI (Public Record Office of N. Ireland) file D298/12. 1 Jan 1746 Conveyance of plots mentioned in D298/6 and D298/7. Consideration: £435 15s. Elizabeth Banks, Belfast, Thomas Banks, London and William Macartney and James Adair, Belfast. Relating to land at on west side and on north side of the Broad Street, (Waring Street), Belfast. and London Gazette. 6 June 1761 and 11 Aug 1761. London, England. - William Macartney, Belfast, co Antrim, Ireland and Robert Adair.
McCartney / Macartney family may have been in a firm of Belfast merchants (including Adair family) who traded with America.
Burke's Peerage & B. (1928) p.1520 may have further information on the Macartney family and of William Macartney d.1797, M.P. for Belfast for 40 years who married Catherine Banks, dau of Thomas Banks of Corfe castle.
Isaac Macartney m. Anne Haltridge (Altridge ?) and had sons including : eldest son, George who was Lord of Belfast Castle, and the above William Macartney.
In 1755 Captain Stewart Banks (son of Thomas Banks d.1746) was Sovereign of Belfast.
Would any of these families shed a light on the connection between James, Robert & Jesse Adair of Belfast, Ireland ?
