Dessie, my grandmother, died in 1903 with complications of childbirth. The baby also died. My dad was 4 years old at the time. His name was Dale Adair Brown, and my family still uses the name Adair as middle names.
When Anna Adair died, my grandmother Dessie was raised by Anna's sister and husband, Emile (Van Buskirk) and George Bordner. Although Dessie was always known as Dessie Bordner, she was never adopted and legally was still named Adair.
