jc . . . when I received your message I knew I had not done any work on any of the children of William ADAIR (b. bet. 1690-1710) in quite a long time so after refreshing my memory on all of them . . I read the info I have on Benjamin T. Adair.I decided to do more digging on him because I was hoping others had uncovered more info than I had entered.Sadly I have not been able to come up with anything new although he did move on to KY and this was in some of my notes:
Posted on Rootsweb by "Donna": Richard (Adair)who married Jane Faries who is the uncle to Benjamin T. Adair....
"Donna"says:This is my line from me back. My mother was Margarette Ann Adair Melvin. b. 4/7/1908 . .d. 11/19/1999. Her father was William Heucle (Jerry) Adair b 9/119/1878, d 2/23/1959 His father was Richard Alexander Adair b 7/15/1839, d 1/22/1888. His father was Abiah (Byron) Adair b 7/2/1813, d 1859. His father was Benjamin T. Adair d 7/6 1839 in Nicholas County KY. Only Abiah is known to have been born in KY. Benjamin is the only one buried in KY. All the rest were born and/or buried in Illinois __________
Years ago when I first discovered that the name Benjamin ADAIR included the middle initial of “T” . . I was greatly surprised because I'm guessing he was born somewhere around 1750 - 1770 (give or take ?)and I had always read that it was rare for anyone to have more than one name in that time period before the Rev. War (unless they were Royalty of course) butafter the war some began giving their children middle names to make them better identified. It was that fact alone that got me interested in searching for WHO was Benj. T’sfather . . but I was unsuccessful.I could not locate any documents of/about ANY ofWilliam (Sr) children that listed a son named Benjamin. It’s my “guess” that there might be some mention of his name in maybe church records . . we know he DID exist so there must be records somewhere in KY but I haven’t found any.
Now William (Sr. my own distinction)had 6 sons, but two (James & Robert) I have been unable to find names of any children . . at all!I alsoran a web search trying to find some names.
I have 3 children listed for William (Sr) son William (II my own distinction) and I have 3 children listed for him & logic tells me he & his wife Margaret could have had more children than I have listed . . since Margaret didn’t die until 1812 and William (II) & Margaret both died in DE . . . so that is a possibility for parents of Benj.T.
Come to think of it . . Richard (Sr) was the only child of William (Sr) that “I have” listed who migrated to KY and with the exception of Jean/Jane Adair(who married James Faires & went to York Co SC) . .I have the rest of William (Sr) children dying in DE.Of course we know that Ben “T” also went to the KY area . . .maybe WITH Richard (Sr)?? . . . Richard (Sr) was b. Bet. 1742 - 1750 . . . apparently by 1800 . . after the Rev. War Richard (Sr) went to KY . . so IF Benjamin T. was b. 1740-1760 guess he could have gone with Richard (Sr)???(Forgive me . . these were just some thoughts running through my head.)
By the way . . some of the info.has been given to me by other Adair researchers . . the rest I’ve found.A lot of the e-mails I received back in the late 90's were lost when my 1st computer ‘crashed’ (& sadly I didn’t have enough sense to backup ‘til that happened)but thank goodness that was the only time so now I need to go back & re-read a lot of ‘em to see if I missed something abt. Benj.T.
If I find anything I’ll sure let you know . . but in the meantime . . I would be happy to send you privately any info I have in my file either with or without notes . . just let me know IF you want anything.
Nell P.S.I’d sure appreciate . . IF in the future . . you ever find Benjamin T. Adair’s family . . if you let me know.In advance . . MANY THANKS.
