Hello - I am not related to this family but found some ADAMS history in a book entitled:"History of the Village of Deersville, Ohio1815 – 1952" by Homer C. Poulson. In it it mentions the first blacksmiths of the area...
Page 43: James ADAMS was the father of T.N. ADAMS, who was also a blacksmith, had his first shop on the west 1-2 of lot 10 of which he was the third owner. The date when he was first there, can be determined by consulting County Deed Record, N. Page 616.Later, when I can just remember him, he had moved his shop east, just across Wood Street on lot No. 8.This shop was evidently discontinued in 1879 or 1880, when Dr. Welsh bought the lot and built his new home.
ADAMS & SCOTT - The following advertisement in 'The Silver Arrow' of March, 1874 introduces another generation."New Blacksmith Shop - in Deersville - new firm - new stock - experienced workmen - T.N. ADAMS, John D. Scot - Adams & Scott - have opened a new shop on Mill Street where they are prepared to do all kinds of work...
On page 107: SPURTZELL - ADAMS - The first farm south of the village in Nottingham Township, was first owned by Thomas Johnson, who sold it to John Spurtzell, who willed it to his daughter, Elizabeth, who became the wife of Nimrod ADAMS.
Their family was David, John, Thomas, Doc, James, George, Mary (Moore), and Anne (Law).
The above Nimrod and James were sons of the first Adams here.He was James, Sr. James, Jr. has been mentioned elsewhere as an early blacksmith. His family was: Thomas Nelson (also a blacksmith here), Daniel, Samuel, Bert, and Mary Etta.
On page 108 - there is a Spurtzell-Adams five generation photo: Elizabeth Spurtzell, wife of Nimrod Adams; Her son, David & wife Emma McIlroy (parents of Jennie, wife of Robt P. Moore, who were the parents of Florence, wife of Jesse Brock and their son.
I would be happy to send an electonic copy of the photo - just contact me: firstname.lastname@example.org
