I have a John Adams whose "ancestors came from Great Britain during the reign of William and Mary".According to our family Adams book this line settled first in PA and by 1788 had moved to Rockbridge County VA.
The children of this "John of Timberridge" or "John of Rockbridge Baths (I suspect one is a father, the other a son):
Robert H. b 1790 Hugh b 1793, died bachelor Polly b 1794 James b 1788, m Sarah McCroskey (my line) Patsey b 1800, m Robert Rea Betsey b 1797, m David Rea Jane b 1805, m Joseph Trevey John b 1802, m Margaret A. Gill of KY
Hugh and James both served in War of 1812.
Children of James/Sarah (McCroskey) Adams:
Mary Caroline b VA 1846 Robert McCormick b VA 1847 Cyrus Hall b VA 1849 James William b VA 1853 (my line) Sarah Ella b VA 1855 Hugh Leander b VA 1857 Edward Sheilds b IL 1859 Amanda Virginia b IL 1862
from "History of the Adams Family" by Henry Whittemore, NY 1893 (the above info has been doc'd and is also found in the Cyrus Hall McCormick lines)
Would appreciate any clarity anyone has to offer on the early Johns!
