Dear Lorien, Thanks for you information. I am pretty sure I have the correct Johnson Adams. I went back and checked my records and I have the birthdate listed for Johnson Knight Adams as June 22, 1843 and death date as Sept 19, 1922. He died in Hanging Dog, NC. (cherokee county)
I believe the Adams I am interested in all lived in either Hanging Dog, Cherokee County or in Blount County, TN. As I previously stated, I am a novice genealogist and would appreciate any information you could provide to me regarding census records! I am very interested in finding out about my entire Adams lineage but am most currently interested in finding out about Horace Ivan Adams who was my Grandfather. He married Olive Ingram but I don't know the date or place. He died when my father was 3 years old in 1934. My father was born in 1931 in Copperhill, TN. He grew up in Etowah, TN. My father died when I was five and I grew up with my mom's side of the family in San Antonio, TX. SO here I am at 32 trying to backtrack and find out about my Adams roots.
So, if I have this correct, the elder Johnson Adams was your great, great, great grandfather? Correct? I believe he is my great, great, great grandfather as well.
Below are some web sites I thought you'd like to see:
http://www.goldenbranches.com/nc-state/cherokee/hanging.htmhttp://www.goldenbranches.com/nc-state/cherokee/hanging.htm This site is the Western NC genealogy resource center for Cherokee county. It lists the names of everyone buried in Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery. It was here I found JK Adams, Horace Ivan (known as Ivan), and numerous other Adams. I even found William Arthur and Oscar who I nowbelieve were twins like you said.
http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~patrickfamilytree/cherokeeco.htmlhttp://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~patrickfamilytree/cherokeeco.html This site gives a listing of cemeteries in Cherokee, Co, NC. Hanging Dog Baptist Church cemetery is listed and if you click on it, it will take you to some pictures. I didn't see any pictures of Adams graves and I knew some were buried there so I emailed the lady responsible for the sight. She said that she didn't finish photographing the entire cemetery as she got poison ivy when she was there last! She plans to return in the spring to finish. I will be in touch with her then.
I think that's about it,
Thanks so much for your information! Chrystal Adams Westwood
