MICHAEL GRAY was born at Bath, Morgan County, Virginia, July l8, l824, and departed this life in Van Wert, Iowa, Nov. l7, l92l, at the ripe age of 97 years, 3 months and 29 days. When he was a mere child, his parents moved to Fayette County, Ohio, where he grew to manhood and was united in marriage to MISS NANCY HOGUE on July 4, l85l. To them were born eight children, three of whom, MINNIE, WILLIE and MRS. LULU PATTERSON, with his good wife, preceded him in death. He is survived by five daughters, MRS. LIZZIE ROACH, of Kansas City, Mo.; MRS. EFFIE WHITEHEAD, of Pearl Line, Texas; MRS. M.E. TALLMAN, of Van Wert, Iowa; MRS. ANNA ADAMS, of Miami, Okla.; and MRS. LOUISA WHIPPS, of Fresno, California.
In l866, he came with his family to Iowa and settled at Green Bay, and later, in l876 he moved to Garnett, Kansas, where he lived until l909, since which time he has made his home with his daughter, MRS. M.E. TALLMAN, at Van Wert, Iowa.
Brother GRAY was a Christian man having learned to trust in the Lord many years ago. While living at Green Bay, Iowa, he united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, and later with the United Brethren Church at Garnett, of which church he was a member at the time of his death. Funeral services were held at the home of DR. and MRS. TALLMAN in Van Wert, Iowa, at l0 o'clock, Friday morning, Nov. l8, l92l, in charge of Rev. V.W. Henderson of the Methodist church. The body was taken to Garnett, Kansas for interment.
