Annie, You are an answer to my prayers. Catherine Elizabeth Adams-Womack-Marr-Poe, was my great-great-great-grandmother.Her history is fascinating to me and I have been on a great search to find out more about her.I would love to have ANY of the information you have on her, including the information that John sent you.I want to know about ALL the graphic family stories that you know, including how her first husband, William Green Womack was killed by his slave/servant.
Catherine married a second time to John M. Marr in Macon County, Alabama on March 05, 1846.He evidently died shortly after they came to Polk County,Texas and she married John Foster Poe on December 01, 1859.I have a copy of her will and it was filed with the probate court in 1864.With John Foster Poe, she had 3 children, Wyatt H., Ida, and Emma C. Poe.As best I can figure, she probably died in childbirth, or soon after her last child was born. Her husband, John Foster Poe, remarried in 1870 to Maggie S. McKinnon and they are buried at Moscow Cemetery, Moscow, Polk County,Texas.I have no idea at this time where Catherine is buried.
I can share information that I have about her and her Womack daughters. Her daughter, William Francis, was called “Fannie” and she married George Washington “Wash” Taylor Burroughs on May 29, 1869 in Polk County, Texas. Her daughter Leonora was married twice in Polk County, once to John B. H. Jones and after he died, she married Thomas Jefferson Burroughs. Both of them, along with their husbands are buried at the Burroughs Cemetery in Polk County, Texas.I haven't had a chance to research any of their descendents yet.
I have a copy of a historical newspaper article, printed in the Polk County Enterprise, about the “Womack” girls. From time to time, they write up little histories about the older generations that first settled Polk County. It is pretty accurate as far as I can tell and to describe how I am related to almost everyone mentioned in the article would be very confusing, even to me.
Sophronia Jane Marr-Donahoe-Tullos, born September 24, 1853, died August 8, 1928, was the daughter of Catherine and John M. Marr and she was my great-great-grandmother.Her daughter, Catherine Amanda Tullos McCormick was my great-grandmother.
