Hi Wallace.I have a Henry Dennis Adams b 1847 (LDS record says b Accomack Co VA on Eastern Shore).Family note indicates there may be a Williamsburg VA connection or birth of either Henry or his father.I know Ebenezer Adams started a big line of Adams there in 1700s.He was married to Tabitha Cocke, dau of Richard Cocke.Ebenezer came to America from Eng 1714, received land grants Henrico Co and New Kent Co VA. Member House of Burgesses, his children were born in Williamsburg and a couple in New Kent Co.One son married a girl from Richmond and settled there.
The other family tale I hear (mother said her mother told her this) s that the Adamses were from Maryland, Somerset Co., on the Eastern Shore. This is a huge family originating 1600s in Northampton Co VA across the bay from Norfolk and VA Beach. The family migrated to Somerset Co MD from there and with every generation they went back and forth depend. on who marr. whom...so counties in VA for them would be Northampton Co and Accomack Co. Maryland counties are Somerset and Worcester.
1880 Accomack VA US Census has my Henry D. Adams as a farmer, b. VA parents b VA
On marriage records it states his parents attend the wedding, Henry D. and Elizabeth Adams of Somerset Co. MD. However 1850 Census Somerset Co MD does not have a Henry D, but a Henry J and Elizabeth and there is no little Henry with them.He should have been age 3 by then.
Perhaps his roots were VA, then migrated to MD for a few years, back to VA.Another son was John b. 1845, a blacksmith who married a West in Accomack Co VA.
Hope this information gives you additional insight into sorting out the Adamses.
